3 arrests made in rape accused absconding MLA case

GUWAHATI: Three persons including the Boko MLA Gopinath Das's brother-in-law, Biswajit Chaudhury, were arrested by Kamrup police today. While the brother in law was suspected to have helped Das to flee, the two others have allegedly misled the investigations.

Das is on the run after police registered a case against him for sexually abusing his 13 year old domestic help inside his moving car on August 29 evening.

Police said they are involved in allegedly producing a forge document which was submitted before the court to avail a bail for Das. In the documents, the victim girl's parents signed a letter saying that they have registered the case against MLA after being instigated by some politically motivated people from Das's rival camp.

However, the parents denied it.

Meanwhile Kamrup district police have closed two sub inspectors who were investigating the case for their inaction to arrest Das so far. The two police officials- officer-in-charge of Nagarbera police station, Bhabendra Nath and sub inspector of Monira outpost, Amiya Goswam were 'closed' to the police reserve here for their poor performance.

The MLA was slapped with several non bailable sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) act.
