12-hour bandh passes off peacefully
SHILLONG: The 12-hour bandh called by the HNLC on Wednesday passed off peacefully with no untoward incident reported in any of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
Shops and business establishment in the main commercial hub of the city were down during the hours of the bandh which was effective from 5 am till 5 pm.
Few of the local taxis including STPS buses and maxi cabs were seen plying despite the bandh.
Meanwhile, the overall percentage of attendance of both Administrative Departments and Head of Departments at 3:30 PM was 89%. This was informed by the Personnel & AR Cell Department.
The percentage of attendance in the Main Secretariat is 93%.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal however said that the attendance of government employees in the Government offices in the district is not very encouraging.
"The percentage of attendance is between 55 to 60 percent only," Goyal said.
He, however, informed that no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district.
Meanwhile, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Ripnar Lyngdoh informed that the overall percentage of attendance of the Government offices in the district was 93 percent.
According to her, few of the shops were open and also vehicles were seen plying during the hours of the bandh.
Meanwhile, the percentage of attendance in West Jaintia Hills was 89 percent, East Jaintia Hills (62 percent) and Ri-Bhoi (70 percent).
