SHILLONG/ ITANAGAR: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma visited Tawang, on the occasion of the Losar festival on Saturday.

Chief Minister Sangma was welcomed by the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, together with Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju.

"Bowled by the hospitality of #Tawang in #ArunachalPradesh. Looking forward for a memorable day ahead in this beautiful city, home to India’s oldest monasteries. Thank you my friends Pema Khandu ji Kiren Rijiju ji for the warm welcome in your State," Sangma posted on his Facebook handle.

The Losar celebrations started at Thubchog Gatselling and Gontse Gaden Rabgyeling monasteries, in West Kameng district on Friday reported the Arunachal Times.

The Losar festival marks the end of winter and the onset of the spring season.

Expressing his happiness, Khandu posted on his Facebook handle, "Pleased to welcome dear friend Hon CM of #Meghalaya Shri Conrad K Sangma Ji and my dear elder brother Hon Union MoS Shri Kiren Rijiju Ji today at Tawang. Delighted by their presence in land of the enlightened!"

The fifteen days celebration is marked by merrymaking, and rituals of gratitude to God (water spirit) to be performed at local springs.
