District officials destroy poppy plantation in Arunachal’s Changlang district

ITANAGAR:

Changlang district officials and paramilitary forces destroyed about five hectares of poppy (opium) and cannabis plants in Dirak Pathar and Kumung Pathar in Arunachal Pradesh, on Wednesday, sources informed.

Based on specific inputs, the team led by Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Talo Jerang and district officials swung into action along with paramilitary forces and destroyed the poppy and cannabis cultivation worth lakhs.

Reportedly, the cultivators blocked the approaching team of officials and fled before their arrival.

A case was also registered at Bordumsa police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. (With inputs from Arunachal Pradesh)
