Arunachal Women's Commission conducts awareness programme on women rights

The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) conducted an awareness programme on women rights in West Siang district on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, APSCW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi called for an amendment of customary laws and, said that gender equality needs to be maintained at the village level.

“Women empowerment cannot be without economic empowerment and property inheritance rights,” she said.

“The time has come to shun costly and unaffordable marriage system that ultimately leads to domestic violence,” she said.

Reportedly, the gender sensitisation awareness programmes for women rights, responsibilities, empowerment and privileges under various laws and acts are being held in every nook and corner of the state.

Meanwhile, West Deputy Commissioner Moki Loyi has praised the initiative by APSCW and, urged the gaon burahs (headmen) to spread awareness on women rights.
