PASIGHAT:

A 17-year-old girl studying in Class X became a victim of social media exploitation at the hands of a Facebook user going by the name ‘Jm Lardki’ following which the girl stopped going to school out of depression.

According to an FIR lodged at Itanagar Police Station on January 30, 2021, the victim’s father sought help from the police in tracking the Facebook user.

He told police that his daughter’s photos were being used as a profile picture for an account which was posting illicit and inappropriate comments on the social media platform.

“My daughter is being dragged and tortured by the fake FB account user, saying they will defame her name, bringing public shame to parents. Because of such acts of fake account users, my daughter is mentally suffering. She has stopped going to school and is always crying. If she commits anything like suicide, who will be held responsible? We are completely helpless,” said the girl’s father.

He also stated that he had approached Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar PS and urged him to take appropriate action.

“But the police seemed to do little on the case. Police say that such cases are hard to crack as there are several such cases. We had also visited the women police station of Itanagar, but we are not getting desired help instantly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Itanagar Police Station OC, Phassang Simi, has said that an investigation has already started.

“In such cases, we need to send the details to the Police Head Quarter from where cyber experts make necessary investigations and such procedures often take time,” OC said.
