The first meter was installed at the official residence of the Power Minister and the second meter in the official residence of the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of MeECL, Arunkumar Kembhavi.

The smart meters come with a wide range of features that will allow consumers to keep track of their energy utilisation.

According to a release issued by MeECL, the government plans to install two lakh smart metres across the state in the future with funding from the ADB.

"The metres have met all technical parameters and, their functionality is perfectly fine", the MeECL informed.

Enabled with salient features, the metres will allow the consumers to keep track of their energy consumption and reduce energy cost.

"The metres will significantly reduce the problems of under billing and overbilling by giving accurate reads every time," the MeCEL added.

Furthermore, consumers can manage everything online once the meter is installed; it will reduce the operational cost of manpower and, also allow consumers to remotely control the meter.
