Former national Congress president Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Guwahati by a special flight on Wednesday to pay tribute to former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

“Rahul Gandhi will land at the LGBI Airport here at 9.40 am, and from there would head straight to the Sankardev Kalakshetra (where the mortal remains of the veteran Congress leader has been kept) to pay his last respects to the departed leader,” Assam PCC president Ripun Bora informed reporters on Tuesday evening.

“He will stay in the city for about an hour and a half and return by a special flight,” Bora said.

Gogoi, a three-time Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016, breathed his last at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on Monday evening.

The Assam PCC president further informed that central party leaders such as All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C Venugopal and AICC general secretary and in-charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh will also visit the city on Wednesday to pay tributes to the departed leader.
