NEW DELHI:

Ritika Phogat, a 17-year-old budding wrestler and cousin of the famous Phogat sisters, reportedly committed suicide on March 15.

According to Haryana Police, Phogat hung herself from a ceiling fan at her uncle’s house in Haryana’s Balali village.

Police reports stated that Phogat committed suicide after losing the final of a state-level junior wrestling tournament by one point.

Sources state that she was depressed and upset over the results of the match.

“When she came back, she was very upset over the loss. When you have sisters who are super achievers in wrestling, it is possible that one feels the pressure to attain similar fame,” said a family member.

Police have termed it a case of suicide and are averting other angles to the death at the moment.
