Swiggy announces vaccination for 2 lakh delivery partners

Online food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy on Wednesday announced COVID vaccination for over 2 lakh delivery partners employed under the company.

The vaccination is likely to be inoculated during the next phase of the nationwide vaccination drive commencing from April 1, as announced by the Center, informed the company's statement.

"In the first tranche of the programme, 5,500 of Swiggy's delivery partners, aged 45 and above will be eligible to opt-in for the vaccination. By the end of the program, Swiggy hopes to encourage 2,00,000 plus delivery partners with the choice to get vaccinated as they continue to provide an essential service. Swiggy is also requesting authorities for prioritisation of delivery partners in the vaccine drive," read the statement issued by Vivek Sunder, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Swiggy.

He further added that the company shall cover the loss of pay for employees while they get themselves vaccinated.
