Supreme Court tells the centre to put 'Farm Laws' on hold

NEW DELHI:

The Supreme Court (SC), on Monday, asked the Centre to pause the implementation of three controversial farm laws.

The court remarks came during a hearing on petitions challenging the farm laws and the ongoing agitation at the Delhi borders.

The Court noted that there is no improvement on the ground and every talk between the farm unions and the government has resulted in a stalemate.

Chief Justice of India S.A Bobde informed that if the government cannot control the farmer’s crises, the SC may step in with a resolution.

The SC remarked, “Tell us whether you will put the laws on hold or else we will do it, what’s the ego here?”

The Chief Justice questioned the government on various issues on the agitation which has halted many services across the NCR region.

“The situation has gone worse, people have committed suicide. Why are the old and the women part of the agitation in this weather?” The CJI asked.

The Court further ordered the Centre to set up a committee and added, “If the government is not doing it on its own, hold the implementation, we will say.”
