NEW DELHI:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the people of the country to substitute foreign-made products with items produced in India.

In his last “Mann Ki Baat” radio broadcast of the year, PM Modi said, “People have supported the 'vocal for local' campaign started by the government as part of its ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ programme”.

He highlighted the importance of being self-reliant and, asked the manufacturers and industry leaders to make world-class products in India.

“2020 was the year which saw the spirit of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” reaching every nook and corner of the nation”, Modi added.

The prime minister also mentioned about India becoming a global manufacturing hub for world-class products in the future.

He requested the people of the county to prepare a list of items manufactured abroad, and replace them with Indian-made goods.

“Substituting foreign-made products with Indian products would propel the economy to greater height”, he added.

He also mentioned about Kashmiri “saffron” which is on high demand in the international market.

Recently, the government had given the Kashmiri saffron (spice) a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, and working to make it a ‘globally popular brand’.

PM Modi also paid tributes to several revered Sikh personalities including Guru Govind Singh and others, during the course of the address.

Among other things, he also spoke about wildlife conservation and, ridding the country of single-use plastic in the future.
