SRINAGAR:

Srinagar, on Thursday, recorded the coldest night in 30 years as Dal Lake froze completely.

The city recorded a temperature of minus 8.1-degrees Celsius, the coldest since 1991 when the mercury plunged to minus 11.8 degrees Celsius.

The harshest winter reported in many years resulted in the freezing of water supply pipes across the region coupled with other hardships.

Cold waves across the northern part of India is common during the winders, but this year's dip has been severe.

The cold waves from the Himalayas also gripped many cities in North India, including New Delhi.
