Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been placed under house arrest by the Delhi Police following his visit to farmers at the Singhu border on Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Tuesday.
Taking to its official Twitter handle, the AAP posted the following tweet: "BJP's Delhi Police has put Hon'ble CM Shri @ArvindKejriwal under house arrest ever since he visited farmers at Singhu Border yesterday. No one has been permitted to leave or enter his residence."
Meanwhile, at a press conference, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said that Kejriwal had met the farmers at the Singhu border on Monday and had assured them his support.
“He had said that we'll serve them like 'Sevadars' and support them. After he returned, the Delhi Police barricaded his residence from all sides, putting him in a house-arrest like situation, at the behest of the Home Ministry,” Bharadwaj said.
Earlier, the AAP leader extended support to the farmers’ call for the Bharat Bandh on December 8.
“We support all demands of farmers. Their issue and demands are valid. My party and I have stood with them from the very beginning,” Kejriwal told the farmers.
“Farmers are in trouble today. We should stand with them. AAP supports the Bharat Bandh,” he added.
