NEW DELHI:

An Air Force Group Captain died in an accident involving a MIG-21 Bison aircraft on Wednesday morning, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said in a statement.

Taking to its official Twitter handle, the IAF informed that Group Captain A Gupta was on a combat training mission at an airbase in central India when the accident happened.

The IAF has ordered an inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.

“IAF expresses deep condolences and stands firmly with the family members. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident,” a statement from the IAF read.

Notably, the MIG-21 Bison aircraft is one of the oldest aircraft in the Air Force arsenal and often considered outdated.
