Western countries urge UNSC to discuss North Korean missile issue

WASHINGTON:

Several western countries have urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to hold discussions concerning North Korea’s recent missile launch.

A decision was taken on Saturday following the recent missile launches, and the UNSC meeting has been scheduled for March 30.

According to sources, North Korea fired two new tactical guided missiles toward the Sea of Japan.

Pyongyang followed this up by launching two cruise missiles toward the Yellow Sea on Sunday.

Japanese Defence Ministry sources stated a suspected ballistic missile was fired from North Korea on Thursday.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) confirmed that North Korea fired two cruise missiles off the West Coast on March 21.

This marked Pyongyang’s first missile test in about a year.
