SYDNEY:

Victoria, the second-most populous city of Australia, entered a five-day lockdown on Friday following a spike in COVID-19 cases.

State premier Daniel Andrews said the city would be under lockdown till Wednesday (February 17) to put in place proper containment measures.

“Because this is so infections and is moving so fast, we need a circuit breaker,” Andrews told reporters in Melbourne.

However, essential services will continue to operate.

The Health Department also advised residents to remain indoors during the lockdown.
