UK PM Boris Johnson to visit India in April

NEW DELHI:

In his first major international tour, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will visit India at the end of April and is likely to discuss a range of critical issues regarding trade and 'opportunities in the strategic Indo-Pacific' region.

The visit will be the "first of a kind" after the UK's exit from the European Union, during which Johnson is likely to focus on building ties with India for greater partnership in the Indo-Pacific region.

India, being a sectoral dialogue partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic union, will witness UK's attempt to apply for partner status in the ASEAN.

Among other things, Johnson is expected to finalise a much anticipated India-UK Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP) as a precursor to a free trade agreement (FTA) in the future during the visit.
