India, Australia hold talks on disarmament, non-proliferation, export control

NEW DELHI:

India and Australia held the sixth round of dialogue on Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Export Control on Tuesday.

The two sides discussed contemporary issues of mutual interest to strengthen diplomatic ties besides defence cooperation.

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both nations exchanged views on issues in the areas of nuclear, chemical, biological disarmament and non-proliferation, space sciences and export control.

The dialogue will enhance mutual understanding and appreciation of national perspectives and will contribute to the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the MEA statement said.

Last month, India and Japan had engaged in a similar dialogue and discussed a wide range of contemporary issues with special reference to the Asian region.
