Sikkim in a festive mood with advent of Losoong and Namsoong festivals

Sikkim is in a festive mood with the advent of Losoong and Namsoong, the festivals of the state's ethnic Bhutia and Lepcha communities.

Losoong and Namsoong is also recognized as the Annual Harvest Festival of Sikkim. This festival symbolizes attachment of the people with Mother Nature and celebrates it as the agricultural New Year where farmers rejoice and glorify their harvest filling the entire state with a festive spirit.

Further, both Losoong and Namsoong is the celebration of the Sikkimese New Year. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur by the people of Bhutia and Lepcha communities. Cham dance and archery contests are the major attractions where in the cham dance symbolizes an offering to the Gods. The dance not just reflects the festive mood but welcomes the new harvest season.

Kagyed Dance, a traditional form of mask dance is also performed in Buddhist monasteries across Sikkim on this occasion.

 In the festive occasion, Governor Ganga Prasad while wishing the people of the state asked citizens to reinforce harmony and brotherhood among all Sikkimese. Chief Minister PS Golay has also wished for happiness, good health and joy to the people of Sikkim and hope that they will follow the legacy of goodwill, harmony and peace.
