COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Nagaland

KOHIMA:

The COVID-19 tally in Nagaland have crossed the 10,0000 mark on Monday and the number of positive cases in the state continues to rise.

As per reports, after positive cases were detected in Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Department of Information and Public relation office, Kohima, the offices have been temporarily sealed and more public establishments were also shut down in Dimapur, Kohima and Peren on November 16, following the detection of COVID-19 cases. 

The Chief Election office in Kohima has also been temporarily sealed after 58 of their officers & staff have tested Covid positive and the 9th NAP (IR) headquarters in Peren was also sealed after 132 of its personnel tested COVID-19 positive on November 16. According to Health officials, the police personnel recently returned to Nagaland after deployment in the Bihar state Assembly elections.

Dr Nyan Kikon, Nodal officer IDSP, said the temporary sealing was necessitated to enable sanitisation of the offices so that more infections do not happen and the surveillance team will also be able to detect the necessity of contact tracing.

He added the surveillance team, and the positive patients need some time to do comprehensive contact tracing.

Kikon further said although many challenges remain there are still new challenges which the department is encountering, especially in terms of the reluctance of the people to come forward if they have signs and symptoms of Covid.

He appealed once again to the people with symptoms to come forward for testing so that early diagnosis and initiation of treatment can be done, and added that the primary aim of the department now is to break the chain of transmission.
