Tripura’s ‘Neighbourhood Classes’ is about to transform learning

The Tripura government introduced the "Neighbourhood Classes" of grouping the students into five each as a preventive measure against COVID-19, on Thursday.
The Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that this new method of "Neighbourhood Classes" would help conduct regular classes in schools.
"Students from class three standards to class twelve attended in the "Neighbourhood Classes" in the school ground or a nearby open space outside the schoolhouse room. Over 27,500 teachers would go to the students' locality and teach them in small groups in open space, consisting of a maximum of five students by maintaining social distancing, proper face covers, and following safety measures," Nath said.
States like Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka have already started classes with this method, added Nath.
The first day of the class was attended by 1,00,258 students, with the numbers expected to increase. However, no teacher or education shall force any student to attend the classes.
The education minister added that the opinions and suggestions of the parents and guardians of the students will be taken up, through the IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System).
