Third phase dry run for COVID-19 vaccination underway in Assam

GUWAHATI:

After starting the dry run for COVID-19 vaccination in Nalbari, Sonitpur and Kamrup (Metropolitan) districts in two phases recently, the Assam Health department on Friday ran its third phase in the remaining districts of the state.

Sources informed that the dry run is being conducted in three locations (healthcare facilities) in each district, in the presence of district officials and senior officials of the health department monitoring the progress.

According to official information, the dry run will be a continuous process till the vaccine arrives in the state.

Officials have also said that the preparatory exercise has been carried out to ensure that there is no backlog in implementing the upcoming first phase of the vaccination drive that will involve healthcare workers and subsequently security personnel and citizens above 55 years of age.

Among one of the best performing states in the country for COVID-19 management, Assam has started preparations for storage of the vaccines about three to four months back.

A state vaccine storage facility has been set up in Guwahati besides regional vaccine storage facilities in five locations.
