SHILLONG | SEPT 15, 2020:

The Health Department has instituted an inquiry on the violation of COVID-19 protocols by the pharmacist of Shillong Civil Hospital.

Joint Director of Health Services (JDHS), Dr Sanjiv S. Nongbri, who is also the Surgeon Superintendent of Shillong Civil Hospital, will head the inquiry.

Informing this, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman Warr informed that they have instituted this inquiry to go into the details on the violation of COVID-19 protocols by the pharmacist.

"He (Dr Nongbri) will submit the report to the department accordingly. He would also suggest the disciplinary actions which need to be initiated against the pharmacist for violating the protocols," Dr Warr said.

Earlier on August 4, the pharmacist was under quarantine in one of the city hotels and had gone to drop his wife, who was working at Rangthong PHC in South West Khasi Hills, despite waiting for the COVID-19 test results.

Dr. Warr earlier informed that the pharmacist had gone to Rangthong PHC to drop his wife on August 4 without informing the authorities.

According to the DHS (MI), he had even used an ATM while travelling and, on his return, had visited other places.

He later went back to the hotel without the knowledge of the authorities. When the results came out positive, they shifted him to the corona care centre.

Dr Warr stated that once the pharmacist recovers, they will take necessary action against him for violating the protocols and for putting other people at risk.

We may note that the District Administration had to close the PHC and disinfect the premises while members of the PHC were asked to quarantine themselves.
