AGARTALA | Dec 01, 2019:
Hard-pressed by a severe resource crunch, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to collect property tax by deploying ten teams that will go from house to house with Point of Sale (POS) machines.
Giving the tax payer his actual dues through assessment produced online, the teams will collect tax on POS machine through ATM, Debit, Credit cards etc and give receipts of payment.
Issuing this notification, the AMC authority have sought co-operation from the citizens of Agartala, Tripura. Earlier, the left front government had taken an initiative to introduce online system for payment of tax and for obtaining other services but the software firm entrusted with the task began the job but left midway without completing the work.
Besides, AMC, Muncipal Councils and Nagar Panchayat can not provide any service readily to tax-payers at home as they neither have any call centre nor even a toll free telephone number.
Meanwhile, the new system announced to collect property tax through teams of collectors with POS machines has triggered a controversy.
