Nagaland ushers population policy for sustainable development

KOHIMA | JULY 26, 2020:

As part of the Population Stabilisation Fortnight from July 11-24, female sterilization and insertions of 30 intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs) were practiced out in community various health centers in Dimapur district.

It was reported that a total of 68 females underwent permanent sterilization and insertions of 30 IUCDs, commonly known as copper-T.

IUCD is a temporary method of female sterilization.

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the medical fraternity also observed the Population Stabilisation Fortnight in the district under the theme "Preparation for family planning even in times of disaster; full responsibility of competent nation and family".

Also, 163 oral contraceptive pills and 1,200 condoms were given during the fortnight as part of the family planning exercise.

The emergency nurse assistants, Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHAs) and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) staff played an important role to carry out the mission successfully.
