Nagaland revises syllabus to reduce students’ workload

The year 2020 is a challenging year for the whole of humanity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it has forced the closure of schools thereby disturbing the course of formal learning.

Yet amid all these unprecedented situations the world has to move forward with new initiatives to cope with the new challenges. This can only be made possible through education by revisiting the existing system and making it relevant.

The northeastern state of Nagaland also came up with several initiatives to ensure students don't miss out on education, one being the reduction of existing syllabus ranging from 20% to 30% in different subjects for the sole purpose of conducting the final examination to reduce the workload of the students and to compensate working days.

The chapters/topics that are removed from the syllabus are given at the Board's website (www.nbsenagaland.com). The reduction is applicable for this academic session 2020 only.

The revised mark distribution unit/chapter wise, the design of the question paper subject-wise along with the internal assessment areas and guidelines are enclosed. Whatever activities the school do, whether it be external or internal, the same must be recorded. The internal marks of the students too must be recorded and kept properly.

The Chairman Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Asano Sekhose has requested all Heads of Institutions to take note and inform the concerned teachers and the students about the changes.
