This year we celebrate Mother's Day on May 10. On this special day dedicated to all mothers, we express love and gratitude towards mothers for everything they do for their children and families selflessly.

Here are the five facts you need to know about Mother's Day.

#Mother's Day is an annual celebration honoring the Mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May.

#Mother's Day began in the United States. Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. St Andrew's Methodist Church now holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. 

#In India, Mother's Day has been assimilated into Indian culture and is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May. Indians do not celebrate the occasion as a religious event; its celebration is mostly restricted to urban areas where the occasion has been largely commercialized.

#It is important to celebrate Mother's Day to thank your mother for everything she does for her child without any selfishness and show her unconditional love and affection.

#Mother's Day is not a public holiday, Since it is celebrated every year on Sunday.
